    Description
    This is a nice
    FUCHI KASHIRA,
    made in
    SENTOKU,
    a matching set for a japanese
    KATANA
    or
    WAKIZASHI
    size.
    This design depicts A scene from
    GEMPEI
    war 1181–1185 depicting
    YOSHITSUNE
    of
    MINAMOTO
    clan.
    At the end of a heroic resistance, he asked to his soldiers to resist, to have time to recite the
    SUTRAS
    , then he makes
    SEPPUKU
    with his wife and his child, thus ended the epic of the most famous
    SAMURAI
    of Japan.
    Technique
    The
    NANAKO
    ground, or “ Fish roe “ a pattern of small raised dots made with a hollow punch is deeply incised and decorated in
    IROE TAKAZOGAN
    a high relief inlay, with accurate details accented with incrustation of
    SHAKUDO
    , gold and SHIBUICHI.
    A work of a quite high quality, in very high relief delicately carved.The design is an excellent chisel work, carefully inlaid and finely decorated with accurate details in a typical work of
    SOTEN
    style.

    During the
    JUEI
    period1181–1183, the armies of the
    GENJI
    and the
    HEIKE
    engaged in a series of battles including
    ICHI NO TAMI, YASHIMAandDAN NOURA.
    These are know collectively as the
    GENPEI GASSEN,
    battles of the
    GENJI
    and the
    HEIKE
    .
    During these conflicts, various legends of valour, knightly courtesy and courtly elegance were written down to become a part of the classical literature of Japan.
    Also, these themes became favourite subjects for fittings, painting and decorative craftswork.
