I was only 6 in 1961 and absolutely obsessed with my doll, Abigail. Abigail was a gift from my Aunt Jo. I took her everywhere with me! There was something comforting about her presence, but that’s all changed now.
When I was a young girl, my family lived on lake Lanier in Georgia. My dad, brother, and I loaded up the boat and headed out for the day. While my dad was fishing, my brother grabbed Abigail and was dangling her off the side of the boat. Frantic, I rushed to grab her back but ended up falling off the boat with her instead. All I remember is my dad jumping in to save me.
Once I was back on the boat I realized Abigail was still in the water. We looked for her for a while but finally just went back home. I knew in my heart she was gone, but still always looked for her when we went out on the water.
In 1973 I married the love of my life. We moved to Alabama and started a family. I thought of Abigail through the years and wondered if anyone every found her.
When my parents died in the 90’s we went back to lake Lanier for the funeral. My husband and I were walking along the shore when I saw her. I knew that was my girl! She was lying in a swampy area with tall grass. She was a mess. Her arms and legs are tattered and torn almost completely off. Her body parts different colors from sun damage and her voice box no longer said “mama” like it used to. Just a very strange click when you moved her around. Something felt very eerie about her.
I brought her home with me back to Alabama but she stayed in a storage unit with all my parents belongings until just recently. Upon bringing her into my home, the whole vibe was off. Something about her kept haunting me. I thought maybe it was fate that I found her again. I soon realized it was anything by fate.
I’m not sure if you’ve heard of lake Lanier, but if you do a quick Google search you’ll find out the lake is haunted. Many drown in the lake every year. It’s honestly horrifying and I’m not sure why they haven’t closed it down. I felt like an evil spirit was in my home from the minute I brought her inside. I can’t explain the chills I would get on my body when I looked at the doll. I decided to take her to a medium to see if I could get some more information. The medium informed me this doll was a vessel for a very dark spirit of someone who drowned in the lake. She was not my Abigail anymore. That’s all she would tell me.
Terrified and scared about what I’ve possibly brought into my home, I want this thing out of here. I really do not want this doll in the wrong hands. I haven’t experienced anything paranormal but the feeling I get when she’s around me is enough to know something is not right. Things in the past should stay in the past. I’ll always remember my Abigail fondly, but the sweet doll I knew is long gone.
