    Description

    SIGNED GOAMI/KIAMI TSUBA
A 77x77x4.5mm iron, marugata, kokuin tsuba with sukidashi and sugisage-bori crests with random brass web like inlay. Mid Edo Period. This comes with a kiri wood box.
A very similar unsigned Goami tsuba is shown on page 23 (shown here) of my book  JAPANESE SWORD GUARDS-ART OF WAR , BUT IT IS NOT THE ONE YOU ARE BUYING.
The Goami school was founded in the Edo period by Toemon Masanaga when he moved to Hiroshima in Aki Province. For many years the name was read as Kiami until a signed tsuba was found using the Go kanji instead of the ki kanji. The relationship to the Shoami school is unknown. Goami work resembles Shoami work, but is much rarer.
