Description
This is a vintage 1950's Japanese sword guard (tsuba
). Not sure what the metal is, but not bronze, or iron. Perhaps pewter? The raised design work is
pine bows
, one of the three elements of Happiness (pine, bamboo and plum blossom. The pine tree is also a Japanese symbol of strength and longevity.
Having been found in a storage where it has probably sat for the last 70 years, it remains in excellent condition. selling today for 99 cent start with no reserve. It measures 2 1/2 by 2 3/4 by3/16" thick (6 x 7 x .4 cm)
