    Description

    First Need portable drinking water purification system for camping, backpacking, etc.  This First Need unit is intended to provide bacteriologically safe drinking water meeting or surpassing U.S. Public Health bacteria standards from virtually any normally treatable fresh water source, without adding chemicals.
    This water purifier incorporates three purification methods in a single device: (1) it microstrains to physically remove enteric disease bacteria and other particles larger than 0.4 microns, such as Giardia cysts, parasitic tapeworms, debris, asbestos fibers, etc. (2) positive and negative charges induced into the microstraining matrix attract and hold oppositely charged particles even finer than 0.4 microns, and (3) pharmaceutical grade adsorbers capture and hold chemicals like pesticides, herbicides, volatiles, and other organic contaminants.

    To use the First Need unit, a hand-operated pump forces water through the purification microstructure.  Normal pumping
    can produce a pint of purified water in less than one minute.  The unit can be “backwashed” to remove contaminants from the microstructure, extending microstructure life.
    This unit is used, but the total volume of water purified by this unit only amounts to about 5% of the nominal 800 pint capacity of the microstructure purification canister.  Thus, 95% of its nominal capacity is still available.
    Includes everything you see in the photos: pump, hose, microstructure canister, operating and backwashing instructions, blue dye, and carrying case.  It is important to follow all instructions.    Instructions for operating and backwashing this unit are detailed, but easy to follow, with excellent illustrations.  Does not include the pre-filter.  As stated in the instructions, the pre-filter is an optional accessary, and is not required to achieve fully purified drinking water with this unit.
